Understanding Electric & On How Your Company Can

Save Between 10- 35%

save each month!!

Most businesses are not very energy efficient due to the lack of their understanding on this subject, which results in poor design in their electrical system, which results in the lost of energy in three areas within a company.

The first is very obvious to every one, by not incorporating energy efficient devices & energy saving devices such as Florescent Lighting, light sensors with automatic shut off if no one is present in the room, or if there is adequate natural lighting and also using energy efficient devices such as efficient electric motors.

The second thing is not so obvious to business, because their failure to account for harmonic distortion within their electrical system, which are created from DC transformers within their computers and also Ballast within florescent lighting fixtures, and certain other type of electric equipment..

The third thing is also not so obvious either to business having Poor Power Factors, which also contribute to energy loss that the utilities have to make up for and you are charge accordingly.

By business not taking these into account, and lack of planning of their electrical systems companies experience losses anywhere between 10 to 35% each month due not being energy efficient.

Our company helps identify problems within you electrical system and correct for harmonic distortions, and poor power factors within the power distribution system.  Which results in your company saving money each month from anywhere between 10 to 35%.

Understanding Electric and Electrical Devices

Electricity is a basic part of nature, and it is one of our most widely used forms of energy. We get electricity, which is a secondary energy source, from the conversion of other sources of energy, like coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear power and other natural sources, which are called primary sources.

An electric generator is a device for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy, and there two types of electric DC and AC, Where DC current is electric going in only one direction (Cars work on DC, Battery devices like radios) AC is alternating current which goes back and fourth in direction and in the US it is 60 cycles per second.

AC (alternating current) is what is used in your home and business. The reason AC power is used, is because when AC is transmitted from the power stations to your business the AC current has the least amount of loss of current, where this is not the case with DC current.

BIG Surprise to most companies is Electrical devices draw current differently for example Light bulb and resistance heaters draw current exactly (synchronized and proportional to voltage)

However other loads from a verity of devices such as inductive motors (Electrical motors) tend to draw current with a time lag (Phase Shift) or distort it (Induce harmonics). Which takes more current to deliver a fixed amount of power, (When the current is phased shifted or distorted)

So a device like a light bulb draws current exactly, where all other devices are out of phase and require more current to obtain the power need to get the work done. By correcting this problem of being out of phase

                                   >>>>>provides the same work done with less current!!<<<<<

                                             Cause of Low Power Factor

Low power factor is caused by inductive loads (such as transformers, electric motors, and high-intensity discharge

lighting), which are a major portion of the power consumed in a business

Unlike resistive loads that create heat by consuming kilowatts, inductive loads (Electrical motors) require the current to create a magnetic field, and the magnetic makes it possible to do the real work

• Real power (measured in kilowatts, kW), which is electrical current that dose the work

Reactive power, which is electrical current that dose not do the work, but provide the magnetizing current, required to operate the device. (measured in kilovars, kVAR)

So here is the problem with electric motors they require current not only to do the work but also current to create the magnetic field and because AC is alternating current (current not going in one direction but back and forth) current is delivered in one cycle to create the magnetic field and then discharged back in the next cycle but then current must be re-supplied on the next cycle which you pay the utility company again to create the electric magnetic field.

Once cycle of AC electric

90% current is provided to do the work  (make an air compressor work) à à à à

10% current is provided for the magnetic field à à à à à à à à àà à àà

                                            Next cycle of AC electric

No electric is provided to do the work

10% current which was provided for the magnetic field goes back to the utility company ß ß

which will be re-supplied by the next cycle by the utility company!

                                             How do you Save Money

Well there are devices that capture the electric discharge of the magnetic field (Like a battery) and store it and then return it back to the electrical motor on the next cycle thus you are not paying the utility company.

There are other devices that eliminate harmonic distortion also saving you money.

Replacing inefficient electric motors, microprocessors to make motors work more efficient, and light sensors with automatic shut off if no one present or if adequate lighting

                                      Why Improve Your Power Factor?

Some of the benefits of improving your power factor are as follows:

Your utility bill will be smaller. Low power factor requires an increase in the electric utility’s generation and transmission capacity to handle the reactive power component caused by inductive loads. Utilities usually charge a penalty fee to customers with power factors less than 0.95. You can avoid this additional fee by increasing your power factor.

Your electrical system’s branch capacity will increase. Uncorrected power factor will cause power losses in your distribution system. You may experience voltage drops as power losses increase. Excessive voltage drops can cause overheating and premature failure of motors and other inductive equipment
